What your dry skin needs (and you're probably not giving it)
There is a widespread misconception: that dry skin and dehydrated skin are the same thing. They are not.
Differences between dry skin and dehydrated skin
Dehydrated skin lacks water. Dry skin lacks lipids, those natural fats that form your skin's protective barrier. You can have oily and dehydrated skin at the same time. But if your skin is truly dry, the problem isn't just a lack of water: it's that it doesn't have enough lipids to retain it.
When the lipid barrier is weakened, water evaporates faster than your skin can replenish it. The result: constant tightness, flaking, and a persistent feeling of discomfort that doesn't go away even if you apply cream three times a day.
That's why your routine needs two things: hydration (water) and nourishment (lipids). Light creams or moisturizing gels that work for combination skin won't be enough for you. You need rich textures, oils, and ingredients that repair that barrier.
